As you may have noticed our blog and website have undergone some drastic changes! We couldn't be happier with the way things have turned out. We feel much more at home with our new branding, it's much more "us". It's so important to have branding that reflects you as a business, and as people. With these new visual changes come some business changes! We are now Rebecca Hansen Weddings!! We will no longer be accepting family or children commissions, we will be happy to refer you on to some of our amazing friends :)  We hope you all love our new look as much as we do. We're looking forward to our busy spring/summer schedule. So come back often for new weddings and engagements!

I love the colors in these images. There's just something perfect to me about a nice yellow and red together. That's probably why I wear those colors together so often, people probably think I look like a kindergartener. Oh well, I don't care, I am who I am. I love color. I think that's why I don't like winter very much. The snow is beautiful to me at first, because it's different and I've forgotten about how cold and miserable it is, but I eventually remember. Spring and summer are full of color, and I love that. I'm so glad it's march. Bring on spring!

I have been meaning to write about this for quite some time but just haven't had the chance to. In November (yeah. that long ago) we went to Seattle to have a mentor session with Sarah Rhoads. It was amazing. We spent the whole day with her and Chris talking about every aspect of our business, from our branding, to editing, workflow, shooting, working with clients, everything. It was so good to sit down with someone who (we think) is extremely successful and pick their brains. We feel so much more confident about the direction our business is going now and we can't thank them enough! I can say we genuinely love Sarah and Chris and we hope to see them again in the future. We were super thrilled to be able to have a short session with them also and get some amazing pictures taken. If any of you have been considering taking a workshop or have a mentor session with someone you admire and respect, do it! You won't regret it. It will help your business immensely.

We had the opportunity to visit the SFMOMA while we were in San Francisco a few weeks ago, it was amazing! It was just the thing Chad and I needed. It was really inspiring to see so much wonderful modern art and design in the same place. I wish I could write more, but my brain hurts too much to think of anything else to say today.

A lot of people have been bugging me for "baby bump" pictures, so here you go! I'm finally showing enough for it to be worthy of a picture :) 11 days til we found out what the bean is!

While we were in California we went to the beach in Santa Cruz for some funtivities. We chased seagulls. Found some seashells.

Today I was thinking about some of the things I think make us successful in life and in our business, and I wanted to share one of those with you. I have always felt that being a positive, upbeat person is important. It wasn't until just recently that I realized how important that is.

To put it simply, if you think bad things are going to happen to you, bad things will happen to you. If you think good things are going to happen, then good things will happen. The bad and the good will always happen, but it's what we choose to make of each that people see and eventually bring more good, or more bad into our lives.

I feel so lucky that we are able to do what we do and work with the amazing people we work with. Too often I  hear photographers complaining about having to deal with this aspect of their business or this one, and I think "wait, aren't you LUCKY you get to do that?". We have an amazingly blessed life and we shouldn't take it for granted. Yes, doing our own taxes is hard, yes, not having dental insurance is a drag, but consider tha alternative...9-5 at a desk. We get to travel the world, meet new, interesting people, and spend more time with our families than most everyone. We should be grateful and positive. We shouldn't be looking over our "neighbor's" fences seeing what they're doing. That's not important. They will run their business their way and we will do things our way. It's not important who's being featured where, and what they're making. I believe if you focus on your business, stay positive, and try your hardest good things will happen to you.

Last week we went to California to see our new nephew Clark, we did some portraits of him while we were there and I wanted so share one frame for all the grandparents who can't wait...

This is how we celebrated. Paper heart mobiles. Flowers {from chad} and chocolate cupcakes dripping in chocolate sauce and white chocolate dipped strawberries. Simple and wonderful. I love Chad a lot.

Matt and Lindsay have been good friends of mine for a few years, we all come from the same area of Massachusetts. Lindsay and I went to church together, which meant going to youth activites every  week and girls camp every summer. I am so happy she's marrying Matt, I couldn't pick a kinder, more perfect guy for her. Matt and I became friends through church too, and we even went on a date once, haha.  The love that they share is so evident. Matt has so much love and respect for Lindsay and you can see it when you're around them. I LOVE THEM!!  I'm super sad we won't be able to be at their wedding in April, but I'm so glad we got to take their engagements.

Just you wait for the rest of these. They will melt your heart. and brain.

I love when chad buys me flowers, it's one of my favorite things. Little things like that make me so happy.

I love our cat, even though I want to throw her out the window half the time for scratching me. jumping on the counters, and puking on the rug. Life would addmittedly be boring without her.

I love chad, and I really love days when we just get to sit around all day together doing nothing.

A few days ago it was our one year anniversary! It's been a really amazing year full of lots of growing, learning, traveling, snuggling, and surprises. We're so excited about life! We are expecting a baby in July, moving to New England, and are just excited with the growth of our business. We love each other so much and just can't imagine life without one another. So in light of our anniversary I thought I'd share some of OUR wedding pictures shot by the amazing Jason McGrew. We love him and his work. All you utah peeps better call him once we're gone!

I had a hard time thinking of things to say in this blog post, mostly because my brain and body are being rocked by pregnancy hormones and a cold right now. BUT...I kept thinking how awesome Heidi and Andrew are. They are our smarty pants couple. Heidi goes to Stanford and is studying engineering and Andrew is studying (please don't hate me if I get this wrong) political science at USU. We had a great time in the snow and wandering around a great used book store in Logan last week. They are super interesting people and we're really looking forward to their backyard wedding in May!

Wow! 2009 was a crazy amazing year for us! It started out with our wedding and the beginning of rebecca hansen photography. In our wildest imaginations, we could not have dreamed of such a wonderful first year of marriage and of business. Photography has taken us all over the country to spend time with the most amazing couples. It has been a great adventure and we are looking forward to an even more amazing 2010 filled with weddings, a graduation, a cross country move, and a baby hansen.

Merry Christmas!
I know this post is coming a couple days after christmas, but who cares.
It was our first christmas as a family, and we spent it right here at home. It was wierd not being surrounded by family with soirees to attend, but we loved it. It was our own little christmas.

While we were in Seattle we stayed with Chad's brother Kellen and his family. Kellen is busy in his second year of medical school and Erin is busy keeping up with cole and baby gracie. We had a really great time just sitting around and hanging out with them, but on this particular day, we had a great time exploring a bit of alki beach.

We had a really wonderful time taking them out to the middle of nowhere and covering their poor feet in snow with the promise of hot chocolate afterwards. They are beautiful people who you can't stop smiling and laughing around and have an infectious love for one another. We're really excited for their D.C. wedding in April so stay tuned for those! During our Thanksgiving trip to Seattle we took a day out to go up to Vancouver, BC to explore. It was nothing at all like we had expected. We had a nice time, but didn't fall in love with it. We did fall in love with Stanley Park, though. Here are a few shots from our exploration of the park.

While we were in Seattle, we had the chance to finally spend time with the shumates. We know them through some mutual friends, but had never sat down with them before. We hit it off and had a really great time shooting some portraits with them. We lost light really fast, but managed to make a few good frames before they took over and worked their lighting magic. We spent thanksgiving week in seattle and had the chance to spend time with chad's brother kellen, his wife erin and their kids cole and gracie. Here is one frame from many that we'll hopefully post soon.

A few weeks ago, we made a quick weekend trip to visit chad's parents in Alberta Canada. We love spending time with them and we are always so humbled by their generosity and love.

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to work the the byu-idaho icomm staff on their upcoming issue of the Bride's Guide Magazine. I was super honored when they told me they wanted to use one of our images for the cover, and even more excited when they wanted to use more of our images throughout the magazine! We are really excited about our first print debut and are looking forward to telling you about some other features we'll be having in the upcoming months. If you're on the school's campus you should pick up a copy and see the all the staff's hard work. You won't be disappointed. 

Katie and Jordan's wedding was on a verrry cold, windy day at the Rexburg, Idaho LDS temple. Their wedding was actually the first wedding we've ever shot in our home town, weird right? It was nice to not have to drive a long ways. Katie has such an infectious smile and laugh that you can't help but feel great around her, they are two of the kindest people we've ever worked with. We had a really wonderful time shooting their wedding and we wish them all the best in their future together! 

We had a great time shooting our photobooth at Wayne and Melissa's wedding in Boston. We love doing photobooths at weddings because people's true colors really come out when they're told they can do ANYTHING they like.

If we didn't love what wed do would we drive 5 hours to shoot a wedding? I.Think.Not. 

Crystal and Adam were married in the Manti, Utah LDS temple. We were so excited when we pulled up and realized it looks just like a castle. They chose to be married there because they had their first date there, and then their first kiss on the lawn during an outdoor play that the church puts on every summer. Crystal and Adam have such fun, easy going personalities and it was such a joy to work with them and their families. 

Chad and I love being able to do pictures for our friends, especially really adorable ones like Erin. Erin is a very talented hair stylist and makeup artist who does our clients' hair and makeup for shoots and who beautified me for MY bridals. Last week she called us up and told us she was going to a masquerade dance with a date and asked if we would take some pictures of the two of them. We were so stoked! Erin had the idea to take them at a cemetery and we loved it. We love when our clients have great ideas to contribute to sessions. In a short 30 minutes we were able to capture some really beautiful images of these two. 

As artists it's really important for Chad and me to do different projects outside of our usual genre of shooting to help us grow. Last weekend we drove out to Driggs with some of our friends the Binghams (of evapual design) and spent a few hours walking around with our cameras. It was a gorgeous overcast day, my FAVORITE conditions for shooting. I love the images we captured.

Quite simply, Wayne and Melissa had one of the dreamiest weddings, EVER. Their wedding day reflected their fun, eclectic personalities perfectly. They were married in a beautiful chapel in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, in Boston surrounded by a small, close group of friends and family. It was a perfect intimate wedding. After their ceremony we decided to take them to MIT's STATA center because the rain just would not quit! It turned out to be the perfect place for them. It was such a stunning building with beautiful natural light inside and crazy modern architecture on the outside. For those of you who don't know, Chad and I adore modern architecture. After their portrait session we went to their dinner at their favorite restaurant, Small Plates, located in the heart of Cambridge, MA. We were so thrilled to be able to be a part of their wedding and loved every minute of it. Thank you for having us! 

Chad and I feel so privileged to be in the line of work that we are. We have the opportunity to meet so many amazing,genuine and kind people. We get to be with people on the happiest days of their lives and help them preserve their memories for years to come. Last night at a seminar put on by Justin Hackworth, I realized just how much I love what I do, so much I started tearing up. We feel so honored by every bride that contacts us to photograph their wedding day. We realize what a huge amount of confidence and trust you put in us and it blows us away every time. There really is nothing else I would rather do than photograph weddings.
